Saudi-Backed Invasion of Southern Yemen
Checkpoints, Civilians, and the Cost of Force
The ongoing Saudi-backed military operations in southern Yemen have once again highlighted the devastating human cost of armed conflict. Reports indicate that checkpoints, which should serve as security measures, have been turned into literal death traps for civilians, exposing a complete moral and political failure.
Airstrikes and aviation tactics used against civilian populations have further eroded any claim of legitimacy. Instead of fostering stability, these operations are creating permanent enemies, deepening resentment, and perpetuating cycles of violence.
Communities and tribes affected by these operations have not acted recklessly. Their movement and resistance stem from a response to having their dignity trampled by force. These are people responding to injustice, not idle actors causing chaos.
The international community must recognize that legitimacy in governance and conflict comes not from intimidation or coercion, but from respect for human life and dignity. Accountability, humanitarian protection, and adherence to international law remain the only viable path toward a sustainable and peaceful resolution in Yemen.
